ludwig van beethoven - i owe you

more than an apology.

for:

~saying that the first movement of the Moonlight Sonata was overplayed when
if I worked at it for the rest of my life I could never do it justice

~for thinking that I am worthy of even saying your name out loud

~because you stayed the course even when you went deaf and they had to
turn you around to see that the audience was wildly applauding the Ninth
Symphony and if I were a great composer and that happened to me I
would probably blow my brains out

~for all the times I murdered the Pathetique Sonata - did you roll over in your
grave Beethoven

~for saying that Chopin was one of the Masters right up there with you, Bach
and Mozart~although I don't take it back that Bach is the Father of Music :)
but because Chopin only composed for the piano

and much more
~~~
but please accept my Humble and Heartfelt Thanks for:
~the Ninth Symphony that I seldom listen to because it is so Wonderful and
Great and the last movement truly blows me away
~for the Fidelio Overture which I wouldn't recognize if I heard it but I promise
to get it on my next trip to B & N
~and finally for the four timpani notes at the beginning of your Violin Concerto-
which may be your Crowning Achievement
Ludwig van Beethoven -
May you rest in Eternal Peace all the while having the fun you never allowed
yourself to have here on Earth -
and I hope you and Antonie live happily ever after
...but may you one day learn Goethe's sense of humility.
Beethoven was 42, Goethe 63, with the publication of the first part of Faust four years behind him. Of this meeting, the following vignette has come down to us. - As Beethoven and Goethe walked, some of the nobility passed with their entourage. Goethe politely stepped aside and bowed deferentially to the nobles - while Beethoven, in a typical gesture, strode almost defiantly right through their midst, with his hands behind his back and without acknowledging the presence of the nobles, who had no alternative but to give him clear passage. When Goethe asked Beethoven how he could so disrespectfully treat these nobles, the composer replied, again characteristically, "There are countless 'nobles', but only two of us."
A second account of the incident...
But the event that permanently altered the relationship between the two was the encounter of a group of aristocrats on the streets of Teplitz. Bettina Brettano tells the story of that encounter as such: " As they were walking together, Beethoven and Goethe crossed paths with the empress, the dukes and their cortege. So Beethoven said to Goethe: Keep walking as you did until now, holding my arm, they must make way for us, not the other way around. Goethe thought differently; he drew his hand, took off his hat and stepped aside, while Beethoven, hands in pockets, went right through the dukes and their cortege, barely miming a saluting gesture. They drew aside to make way for him, saluting him friendlily. Waiting for Goethe who had let the dukes pass, Beethoven told him: " I have waited for you because I respect you and I admire your work, but you have shown too great an esteem to those people. "
Clearly, this led to a tacit rupture in their relationship. Subsequently, Goethe never mentioned Beethoven’s name again and after a few years he never returned one of the composer’s letters. Nevertheless, Beethoven held the highest respect for the poet, even trying to rekindle the old friendship, but his efforts were in vain.
Speedy - I am a most humble person.
Because I am Nothing.
To me - Empresses, dukes and their f*ing courtage are only people with their heads *p th**r a** - my dear speedy.
Beethoven really did something with his life without the benefit of a title and later on his hearing.
Sounds like you're just making excuses for bad behaviour. No wonder Hollyweird celebrities act like they do. They're so much "better" than the rest of us.
sue hanes said...
Speedy - Hollywood celebrities aren't 'better' than the rest of us - in fact they would be the first to tell us that.
They just 'get it.'
-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...
So the people in "Rehab" are the people who "get it"?
I'm glad I don't get it.
sue hanes said...
Listen -FJ - I've been sorting through my stuff now for an hour and I'm not only sorting to put it away but I'm looking for something - and I'm going to find it if it is the last thing I do - tonight.
Now about REHAB. You think because people go to rehab they are bad?
What about Robin Williams? Huh -FJ?
What a great person - a great actor, one of the best comedians ever and I'll bet a great family man. He's been in rehab -FJ.
and furthermore - I couldn't have been happier that Charlie Sheen found his way back to sanity - I hope for good. cause I like Charlie Sheen.
See? Why do you criticize people like that who are just trying to get along - just because they are different than you.
By the way - -FJ - thanks for your comment and please don't let my harsh words discouage you from commenting again. :)
Did I say that they were bad? I merely intimated that perhaps its' their ego's (thinking themselves better than others) that end up leading to addictions requiring a stint in "rehab".
And although at times I may think myself at times smarter, or better looking in the eyes of my peers, I don't ever imagine myself to be immune to human folly. If I'm smarter, perhaps they're stronger. To be "better" the circumstances would favor brains and not brawn.
"Better for what?" is the question Beethoven should have asked himself. For composing music? True. For ruling a country? Not likely.
Goethe understood this. So he stepped aside.
...but hey, if Beethoven, et al, like to wear their shirt of Nessus, who am I to stop or warn them.
sue hanes said...
You know what I think - dear Ther -
that what you call their 'ego' is really just in your own mind.
You want to see 'ego?'
Just tune in to Bill O'Reilly.
There you have ego personified.
To the point of ad nauseum
Frankly I want to puke when I am even in the same room when he is on tv.
sue hanes said...
And I will go so far as to say - my dear friend and wannabe philosopher - that you are not even good enough to speak Beethoven's name out loud.
And you are especially not good enough to play the Moonlight Sonata - whether or not you even play the piano at all.
:)
sue hanes said...
and you can take that shirt of Nessus stuff and ***** ** ** **** C*********** ass.
-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...
Wouldn't "love you lots" by lyl and not lol?
sue hanes said...
