menu for dinner on december 25th

I was trying to think what to have for dinner on December 25th.

There will be 13 of us.

me
the husband
my older daughter
her husband
their four children
my younger daughter
her husband
their three children

My older daughter's older daughter has two guinea pigs - Charly & Marly -
but they can't come because travelling is stressful for guinea pigs.  Hmmm.
Sounds familiar.

I'm thinking of a Big Ham  - a Real one - you know - Raw - with a Big Bone.

Then I could make split pea soup after - or ham & beans.

How does this sound to you - Speedy.
(Speedy is my only commenter of late so that's why I mention him)

Ham

au Gratin Potatoes

Oriental Cole Slaw

Orange Jello Salad with Pecans/Pineapple/dried Cranberries

Carrot/Peas with Mushrooms

Bush's Baked Beans - the best kind really

Hawaiian Dinner Rolls : )

for dessert:

Lattice-Top Cherry Pie a la mode

Pecan Pie
~~~
for me:
Scallops - or since it's the 25th of December I may try Lobster
and I can eat:
~jello salad
~maybe a few baked beans?
~carrots & peas
~Hawaiian Rolls :) no butter
~a few au gratin potatoes
but that's about it
~~~

So what do you all think?

any Suggestions or Special Recipes?

Sure. Drop the au-gratin potatoes and substitute in cheesy scalloped potatoes smothered in Velveta.

ps - and you may wanna sink in a few pineapple rings into the orange jello. They taste great with ham.

Speed - I can go with the velveeta
cheesy scalloped potatoes.

But why don't we just put the chopped pecans and dried cranberries in the jello - skip the pineapple.

Then I'll score the ham and put
Marachino cherries/cloves and pineapple rings on top - with a glaze.

yeah - that'll work.

thanks speedy.

is that the way your mother used to do it - or course she wouldn't have eaten the ham

That would be good in the jello...

And you must not know the story of the Krakatuk if you believe that my mother wouldn't eat any ham.

I never did like that Perlipat...

Speedy - I'm crazy about ballet - but not like Opera.

If you've seen one pirouette you've seen them all.

Just kidding.

I simply adore The Nutcraker - especially with Macauly Culkin.

IU puts it on every year but I'm holding out for Candide in April.

by april I'll be really old...
