a message for rick santorum

When I saw that Piers Morgan was interviewing you
tonight on his Show I thought I would catch some
of it to make sure I wasn't wrong about you.

And I only needed to watch about 10 minutes of it.

I know now that I wasn't wrong.

Funny thing is you came across on Piers Morgan very
well Rick. Talking about your ancesters and whatever.

But if you can't stand up there and be at least a little
bit impressive while running for the Job of Leader of the
Free World then what good is it if you are impressive in
your own home.

Was that your Home where Piers Morgan was interviewing you
Rick? You must be Rich. So why don't you just do something
else with your Money and stop fooling around running for
President?

I've read about you - what you Believe and what you Stand
for.

And why the f*ing sweater vest?

You should follow the example of someone who really knows
how to dress Sharp - Rick.

Like Piers Morgan.

Didja see that tie?

just to set the record straight I'm not in love with
Piers Morgan and anyone who doesn't know who I'm in
Love with hasn't been reading my Blog

I used to wear sweater-vests (along with blue-jeans, a corduroy jacket, and a clip-on tie), too, Sue.......BACK IN THE 1970s!!!!!!

I don't understand what Santorum did wrong. I don't think he'd be one to scale back government, so I'm not quite on board with him, but I think he's one of the most principled people in politics. I find it encouraging that he is unashamed of his Christian faith. I also heard a story about his being on campaign and having the campaign take its toll on him. He realized the campaign must be taking a similar toll on his opponent so he and his wife prayed for the opponent. Made me think well of Rick.

Mike - Principled?

I guess it depends on what your principles are.

I believe that we are living in a time - Mike - when Others are standing up and saying to the People who USED to set the bar for 'Principles.'

Let me put it another way:

I've been saying lately to certain People:

It's Time You Stopped Telling Me
What Truth Is - Now I Believe In My Truth.

And here's something else - Mike -
not everyone in this Country is a Christian. I'm a Christian - but that is just MY Faith. Everyone in America has a Right To Their Own Beliefs - or not.

Christians have to stop trying to Shove Christianity Down Other Peoples' Throats - and Let Jesus Handle It For A Change - and believe me I know Jesus and Furthermore I Believe that He is quite Capable of That.

Well good for Rick and the missus.

I believe in Prayer too.

I Pray every night on my Knees.
: ] So There.

But I don't go around bragging about it - until now. :]

What do you consider "shoving Christianity down someone's throat"?

You think candidates shouldn't express their faith? That's your opinion, right? So why should you be allowed to shove your opinion down my or Santorum's throat?

sue hanes said...

Mike - I think that you are not thinking clearly here.

If candidates want to express their Faith in seekin public officed then let them do it.
But I will speak out against anyone who does so.

Why? Because for me Faith is a Personal thing.

Now how can you say that I am shoving anything down anyone's throat Mike.

Think about it now - I am simply writing on my Blog.

You chose to come to my Blog and read what I write. That is your choice. How can you say that I am shoving my opinions down your throat when you chose to come here - and read my opinions.

I would never say that any Candidate can not be allowed to spout off about their Faith publicly at any place or time.

In fact I will fight for their right to do so.

But - Mike - I will also fight for my Right to say - Hey those People should LEAVE TALKING ABOUT FAITH OUT OF POLITICS.

POLITICS IS ABOUT RUNNING THE GOVERNMENT.

Faith is about dealing with your personal life.

Now if you are a person of Faith and your Faith is a Good Thing - then use your Faith to Guide you if you are in Public Office.

But do not use your Faith as a Springboard to get there - by proclaiming it to be the reason.

But rather use your Reason in seeing that Faith should be kept separate from Politics.

The Founding Fathers knew this. They tried to keep Faith out of Government - but somehwere along the way we got it back in.

America is a wonderful place made up of all sorts of People Mike.
We must make sure that EVERONE IS REPRESENTED.

And we also must make sure that if someone wants to exercise their Faith then they should have that Right.

But I'm just not at all impressed that Rick Santorum and his wife are praying for the other Candidates.

Why I'll even go so far as to say that that is so much b*llsh*t..

And I think Rick Santorum should voluntarily drop out of the race and go back to his rich house and Pray that he can find something useful to do with his life.

Anonymous said...

Please cite examples of Santorum's shoving Christianity down someone's throat.

Every law is espousing some value, so how do you decide which values are acceptable to bring up in public discourse?

Didn't the founding fathers have a chaplin open Congress in prayer? Didn't John Adams say that the American system of liberty was one meant for a religious people? Where do you get the idea that faith should be kept separate from politics?

sue hanes said...

Mike - I will try to explain this the best that I can - and I know that I am repeating myself.

Faith for me is a Personal Thing.

I Believe in God.

I have a Personal Relationship with God.

I am a Christian - because that's how I was raised.

But if I were President of the United States - then my Faith would only be a Part of What I am.

I would want to be President in best way that I could.

I Pray every night - but not for very long because I am always too tired.

When I Pray at night I first always just Thank God for all He has done for me that day - and for Whatever He has given me - not necessariy Materially.

Then I always say Keep a Certain Person Safe - because I Love that Person.

And I always Pray for up to four special reasons - like if Someone I've heard of personally is going through a rough time.
~~~
Now - on a daily basis - 2 4/7 - I follow what the Apostle Paul suggested - which is:
Pray Without Ceasing
For me that means that I am in Constant Contact with God - without even trying. This was developed - for me - over a twenty year period.
But my Relationship with God is interwined so that it is inseperatable - and to put it Simply - I know He is always there - even though sometimes it doesn't feel like it.
~~~

Here is where I believe in Separation of Church and State.

God allows and expects me to live my Life as a Person - the Person that I have come to be now.

And I would - in a Fantasy as President - make clear my Faith Beliefs to everyone - but then that is all.

No mention of Praying or being a Christian as Part of the Whole thing.

And here is why:

As President of the United States -I would be serving each and every individual in the Country - not just those who Believe as I do.

Each Person has the Right to Believe in his own way - and even to Not Believe.

And that is why I feel almost contempt for those who flaunt their Faith as part of the Political Process.

In my Mind - Faith is an Individual and Inherent Characteristic - and not part of the Platform - any more than whether the Candidate is a Man or Woman or what State the Candidate comes from.

Mike - As far as citing examples of how Rick Santorun shoves his Faith down our throats - I can only say that I wish Rick Santorum would shove all his Republican Nonsense Up His Ass - along with His Head.

But I don't mean to Offend.

sue hanes said...

And as for John Adams -

YOU CAN'T TOUCH HIM.

I DON'T CARE WHAT HE SAID ABOUT FAITH.

IN MY BOOK JOHN ADAMS SERVED HIS TIME FOR OUR COUNTRY - AND HE IS RIGHT UP THERE ON MY NO HIT LIST WITH THE OTHERS.

So please - Mike - leave John Adams out of this.

sue hanes said...

Furthermore - Mike - I'm not in Love with John Adams - cause I Believe that Abigail pretty much has that sewed up.

1. You said faith is an inherent part of who you are. Rick Santorum's faith is an inherent part of who he is. When he is describing his values, why would you expect such an inherent part of him to come up?

2. I asked how he would shove his religion down people's throats. In your response, you resorted to vulgarity rather than giving examples. The lack of examples suggests to me that we have nothing to fear there.

3. You said the president would be serving everyone in the country, not just the ones who share his beliefs. There are many in the country who do not agree with the current administration's health care plan and they do not want to pay for it with their taxes. Why should the Obama administration be allowed to impose its values on people who don't agree?

4. I did not impugn John Adams in any way--he's one of the founders I'd like to learn more about. I referred to him only to refute your assertion that the founding fathers thought religion was irrelevant.

Mike -

1. I do not intend to discuss
Rick Santorum again.

I do not like him. Period.

Now Rick Santorum may be a good person - but my opinion of him is based on his Candidacy for the Republican Nomination for President - and I simply do not want someone like Rick Santorum to be My President.

Let me put it this way.

When Sarah Palin was flirting - and sometimes for me dangerously - with the Presidency - I was very much opposed to her.

Now that it seems that she is NOT
going to be President - I can relax and even Respect her for who she should be - in my Opinion. In fact I have put a book on my to buy list that is based on Quotes by her and the name of that Book is:

The Quotable Rogue by Matt Lewis.

2. I don't understand the Question - Mike.

3. It seems to me that President Obama's Health Care Plan went through the Proper Channels.

President Obama was elected to the Job in a Fair Way and has the Right to Attempt and Even Succeed
in Passing Legislation - correct me if I'm Wrong - Mike.

4. I know a lot about John Adams - and if it is requested I will write about him - concerning what I do actually know - on my Miniature Presidents Blog.

He is not up yet - but I can do so at any time since it is my Blog and my Miniature Presidents.

In fact I would enjoy doing that since I have stated before that John Adams is my 'Favorite' President of the United States.

You said you feared Santorum imposing his beliefs on people who do not agree with them. You said you didn't like him. You said something about his head and his rear end. You did not give an example of how he would impose his beliefs on the country or how they would be bad.

The point about Obama's health care plan is that he is imposing his plan on people who don't agree with it (and yet have to pay for it anyway). You fear a president with Christian values who will govern citizens who do not share his faith. Why should we not fear a president such as Obama whose view of "social justice" is not shared by a large portion of those he governs.

In short, Democrats are imposing their beliefs on those who do not share them, but you are saying that Santorum should be feared for imposing his beliefs on people who do not share them--and yet you haven't provided an example of how he has or would do that.

Mike - I also said that I would not discuss Rick Santorum again.

I see that he came in third in the South Carolina Primary - and that
Newt Gingrich came in first.

I might as well say now that Newt
Gingrich does not appeal to me in any way - and there is nothing that could change my mind about that.

I'm not sure why I need to talk about either of these People anyway since I will not be voting for them even if they did get the Nomination - nor would I ever Vote for Mitt Romney.
~~~
What we have here - Mike - is a dicussion that really doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
Barack Obama is the President of the United States. You keep using the word 'imposing.'
Yet if one of the Republican Candidates should become President - wouldn't they be
'imposing' their policies and ideas on US.
See - what is the difference really?
Did not President George W. Bush not 'impose' his Policies and Ideas on Us for Eight Years?
And didn't George W. Bush not remind us on practically a Daily Basis that he was a Praying Christian for Eight Years whether we liked it or not?
And I didn't like it.
The post was titled "A Message to Rick Santorum" and then you say "I don't want to talk about RS. I see that as sending mixed messages.
And yes, both parties are going to govern according to their views, their values. I don't think it makes sense to criticize RS for potentially governing based on values that are shaped by his faith but not making similar criticisms of Obama's governing based on his view of "social justice."
I really don't find Bush's praying that objectionable. Tax payers didn't spend a dime on it. The same cannot be said about Obama's health care.
Mike - How plain can I make it?
RICK SANTORUM IS SIMPLY NOT
EVEN WORTH TALKING ABOUT.
IN MY OPINION HE IS A PIECE
OF CR*P.
OBBESSING ABOUT HIM - THEN
DO SO - BUT NOT ON MY BLOG.
