I looked up the definition of politics/political/politician/political science this morning in three different dictionaries.
~a big old one
~a big new one
~a handy paperback one
And do you know what they all three said that politics were about?
Government.
The structure and affairs of Government.
Politics is really just about going about the business of getting the
affairs of our government in order, electing people to public office -
right now specifically the President.
~~~
It's really pretty basic folks.
We need to get ourselves a President elected.
Here in America we have what is called a Two Party System.
Most of the time the President of the United States is either a
(in alphabetical order) Democrat or a Republican.
Right now the President is a Democrat.
Last time he was a Republican.
Because I am a Democrat I'm hoping that the President will be the same
person for the next four years.
But because we live in the Land of Hope and Dreams a Republican could
beat the Incumbent President.
~~~
It's really very simple folks.
Often the best things in life are simple.
We have just made it complicated.
And how - you might ask?
By bringing into politics issues and stuff that are not really relevant.
Here is what is relevant:
~we already know who is going to be the Democratic candidate for President
~the Republicans are in the process of choosing their candidate
~after we know who the two candidates are we vote for one of them
~the candidate with the most votes is the President for the next four years
It doesn't get much more basic - or easier - than that folks.
Now - here's where I believe we are going in the wrong direction:
We are obsessing about religion.
But in the Constitution the Founding
Fathers mention religion right off.
Maybe they were trying to say that
religion has nothing to do with politics.
THIS IS NOT A RALLY NOR A PLATFORM FOR A MAD BLOGGER
HOUSEWIFE SETTING UP A PLATFORM SO THAT PERSON CAN
RUN FOR PRESIDENT.
Rather this is what I think:
The President of the United States should be President of every person in the Country - no matter what his religion or lack thereof.
A President should be chosen that is smart enough to make good, solid decisions about running the Country.
A President is only one person and the job is too big for one man - especially now - so the President should surround himself with smart people to advise him on these decisions.
If the President happens to be a Believer in a Supreme or Sovereign Creator and wants to pray about decision making - he can do so in the privacy of the White House or at the annual Prayer Breakfast.
All the rest of the people in this Country - if they so wish - can pray like crazy that he makes the right decisions.
There is certainly nothing wrong with that - and it might even be helpful to have some positive thoughts going down to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue from time to time.
~~~
Let's start electing people to the job of President based on their qualifications - and not on the church that they do or do not attend.
If a certain candidate is a member of a religion that seems a bit odd - well let's first look at the basics:
~has he ever murdered anyone?
~can he read?
~when he makes speeches do the things that he says make good sense - and will these things help make our country better and stronger?
If the choice is the second two then he probably could be the candidate for President.
~~~
What am I trying to say in this Post?
I'm saying let's get down to Basics.
Let's stop obsessing over the wrong things.
Let's choose a President that is smart and can work on the things
that are most important right now:
~keeping our Country safe from mean folks
~reducing our national debt
~working to get jobs for all those who want them
~looking at war and the military situation
~treating our Troops in the manner to which they should be accustomed
~prioritizing some of our basic systems - such as education, infrastructure,
senior citizen concerns, pharmaseutical ripoff, etc. - and make necessary changes as needed - with the guidance of qualified people
Did I miss anything?
~~~
While we are waiting for the Repbulicans to decide that Mitt Romney will
be running against the incumbent President Barack Obama - we bloggers can
be ready with our opinions and then in the time remaining we can step up and speak out.
It's really very simple here folks.
We need to elect a President.
I find that very exciting.
I love going to the polls every four years and casting my Vote
for President of the United States - which by the way is - even
in our present condidtion - the GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD.
hands down
Let's get ourselves a New or Same President and then say:
~ok this is the President - I like him or I do not like him
~I am going to work very hard to make my opinion known
~I am going to work to make my country work
~I am going to stand up - next to you - because we are all -
after all - AMERICANS
GOD BLESS ANYONE WHO IS STRONG ENOUGH TO NOT ONLY BE PRESIDENT
BUT TO WITHSTAND THE PRESSURE OF EVEN RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT
and most of all
(and even you mean athiests join in on this one)
GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
and if a traditional idiot housewife can understand the
concept of politics - well then there is still hope for
Our Country
