great pianists on piano playing

by James Francis Cooke is a really good book.

You don't have to be a budding Concert Pianist to benefit
from reading this book.

And I find that these over the top piano players even have
suggestions on Piano Playing that can be applied to Real Life -

is there any other kind?

For instance:

~ Ferruccio Benvenuto Busoni writes that 'in fine
piano playing all of the details are important' -as in life.

~Sergi Rachmaninoff  - who wrote the rach 3 boo hoo - says
that 'the mere ability to play a few pieces does not constitute
musical proficiency' - well I would guess that Frank Abagnale, jr.
pondered over that one from his jail cell although he did ok in the
end.

~Vladimir de Pachmann -  'the C M scale is the most difficult
Scale of all - and there you have it - Simplicity for Dummies

~Alexander Lambert - 'seldom practice over four hours a day' -
not too long ago I actually did manage to practice for four hours
on some days - which leads me to the last and most important
quote from James Cooke's great book

~Ignaz Jan Paderewski - Paderewski is to Piano Playing as Albert
Einstein is to Science.  In fact in introducing this great Pianist in
Chapter 22 - Cooke wisely points out that 'his pianoforte playing
has been so frequently appraised by great critics that it is unnecessary
to comment upon it here.  And the quote that Paderewski offers in
this book is:   'students spend too much time in playing and too little
in work.'

turn and face camera

Isn't this the truth.  I've been there and done that.  When I was in college
I had the Best of Both Worlds.  I was so overcome by Awe in just being
allowed to mingle with these amazing professors and students alike - yet
I had access to the really fun and wild side too:  fraternity parties.

If I could go back - not forward - in Time would I choose one over the
other?  Absolutely not. For both hold cherished memories for me.

But now I find myself on the Crossroads of my Life.  Whether or not to
continue living in the Realistic role of Housewife or should I step out of the
Box and mix with a touch of  Real Reality.

Even I don't know what lies ahead for stidh.

But you can be sure that whatever happens  - you will be able to read all
about it right here on my Blog.

and would it kill you to comment?

is that incoherent enough for you joe politico?
i know you read my blog but please just give
me a sign : ) seg

nicrap - How nice to have you stop by again.

I've missed you.

sue hanes said...

come again when you have something to say.

:-)

sue hanes said...

Abso - You never have to say anything - just seeing your adorable profile picture is enough for me.

nicrap said...

lol! Yes, and i should tell you i do resemble it a little. Only I wear my hair rather short now. ;)

...And i always stop by, as you may know from your stats. :)

nicrap said...

OH, you meant Abso's profile... :(

sue hanes said...

nicrap - the thing is - your profile picture is quite dashing - even handsome - full of deep poetic knowldge like a nineteenth
century poet.

But my dear nicrap - it is the wrong face - for Absolute Marxist's profile picture is the one in which I place my trust.

you see the face that i see there is that of a good democrat - and there you will find the Core of My
Very Existence.

and my vote

nicrap said...

Speaking of the wrong face... ;)

'she clung to me desperately'

yes

'boarded the train'

no nicrap - this is for real.

There will be no boarding of the train this time. This is
Forever.

This is the Genuine Article.

How do I know?

i just know...

I just don't know When.

nicrap said...

i wasn't hinting anything... lol! You and me are like one of those Pete and Mike cross-talk acts. :)

sue hanes said...

Sure nicrap.

Only for me this is not comedy.

This is my life - and I'm only tolerating this out of the hope that there is something Real
in all of this.

for me

and soon i hope

...i wish you luck. In whatever it is you are looking for. :)

nicrap -

'i wish you luck. In whatever you are looking for,

You wish me luck in whatever I am looking for?

If you read my blog you know what I'm looking for.

nicrap said...

...no, i do not, ma'am. Even though, i may say, i read things very carefully. Would you care to tell me?

nicrap said...

...btw, do you remember the story of Jesus's Resurrection? The words he spoke to Mary Magdalene subsequently: Noli me tangere. "Touch me not, for i am yet to ascend unto my father." (John 20:17)

I do not know if you too have just emerged from some kind of hell, and desire ascension, but must you also lose the ability to touch, to smile, to laugh - in short, the ability to a little playfulness?

If i am being presumptuous, forgive me. Nor is it my intention to exhort you in any way, even if i could. But since you in your turn exhorted me to seriousness (though why you should think i am not being serious, i have no idea) ... i though i could ask you this question. :)

nicrap said...

The intellect is with most people an awkward, obscure and creaking machine, which is difficult to set in motion: they call it "taking a thing seriously" when they work with this machine and want to think well oh, how burdensome must good thinking be to them! That delightful animal, man, seems to lose his good humour whenever he thinks well; he becomes "serious"! And "where there is laughing and gaiety, thinking cannot be worth anything" : so speaks the prejudice of this serious animal against all "Joyful Wisdom." Well, then! Let us show that it is prejudice! (Nietzsche. The Gay Science.)

'btw - do you remember the story of Jesus' Resurrection'

Do you mean the day We Made Contact?

Are you talking about the Day when all Promises that God ever made to us - even before He made them - came True?

The Day when Faith was truly Born -
when Man knew that if he had enough Faith he could endure anything - because as Aron Ralston said before he cut off his arm and walked on into History - 'I don't have to be afraid anyore because there is Some Power in charge here...'

And are you talking about Day that when the Air Was the Sweetest and Purest of any Day - ever - because the Sweetest and Purest - the Rock of Ages - the Bravest and Most Wonderful Man -- had beaten the odds - as Promised - and cheated Death?

Is that the Day you are Referring to nicrap?

cause if it is - then yeah -I do remember the Resurrection - of the Christ.

sue hanes said...

nicrap -'would you care to tell me?'

No nicrap I would not care to tell you but I will anyway and then I want you people - Legion - or whoever the h*ll you are really are to stop f*ucking around with me.

GOD PROMISED ME A MAN.

And that Man is Bill Maher.

But He said that I would have to work very hard to Earn It.

And that is just what I'm doing.

I am working very Hard...

But I as not a Patient person.

But I will work to Earn having Bill Maher for my very own as long as it takes - because Bill Maher is As Good As It Gets.

A Real Man - in every sense of the Word.

Nicrap - didja ever see Iron Man 2?

When Robert Downey, jr. says to Gwyeth Paltrow - referring to Scarlett Johannasen? - Can I have one of those?

Well that's how I feel about Bill Maher.

but it wasn't my idea - God is giving me Bill Maher as a reward for my Good Works.

and so I wait - and work.

now if you'll excuse me i have to post something about Christmas cookies.

Good day - sir.

nicrap said...

And i wish you godspeed once again... :)

sue hanes said...

why thank you nicrap

:O)

The Absolute Marxist said...

I suppose you had to be there, nicrap. ;)

The Absolute Marxist said...

I still can't believe that I lost out to Bill Maher...

*shakes head*

...after all, who could deny anything to this face?

The Absolute Marxist said...

What am I, some kind of ugly green ogre?

sue hanes said...

the think is - abso - is as far as i know bill is available and barack obama is not

'flips you off'

The Absolute Marxist said...

Are you sure he isn't gay? :P

sue hanes said...

'what am I, some kind of ugly green ogre'

I never was into Shrek much - only watched it because my grandchildren like it.

But I am a happily ever after person.

I know what I want and I'm not going to settle for less.

I'm a snow white and cinderella type of person.

but see - abso - I'm smart.

because if my prince never appears at my front door i am prepared to enjoy life in MY house as a housewife, play Bach, Beethoven and the boys for the rest of my life, go to MAC two or three times a year - by myself - and then cry myself to sleep.

but you can take this to the bank -Absolute Marxist - if I make it to Heaven's Gate and I don't get bill in this lifetime I'm going to be One Pissed Off Liberal.

and - abso - you don't want to see me mad.

btw - abso - have have you ever seen defending your faith with albert brooks and meryl streep?

sue hanes said...

Abso - There are only two things that could keep me from Loving Bill Maher -

if he murdered someone

if he were gay

and also

if he were in love with someone else and planned to marry her

but i JUST KNOW that's not gonna happen

The Absolute Marxist said...

Nope. It's not ANOTHER show about p*ssed off liberals is it? Cuz if it is, I don't want to see it.

The Absolute Marxist said...

but i JUST KNOW that's not gonna happen

...because he's likely gay.

The Absolute Marxist said...

...sounds like your gaydar is flashing, too, stidh.

sue hanes said...

abso - that kid is hotter than justin bieber -

still i like justin cause he's worked hard to get where he is and he has a strong support group

btw that video hurt me in a way that no one will ever know

The Absolute Marxist said...

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt. More, to inform and express my opinion that 'mania', contrary to popular belief, is a healthy condition, an indicator of one's coming out of melancholia (depression).

sue hanes said...

Abso - Bill Maher is not gay.

but that's not to say he has not dabbled in and experienced in g*y
s*x - but if he has then that justs makes me more attracted to him.

Now I will state once and for all unequivically - I Am Not a Lesbian (not that's there's anything wrong with it) :)

nor do I have Lesbian tendencies.

I'm just a whitehaired unattractive
66 year old lady that wants to have Real sex before I die.

but you see - abso - it's more than that with Bill. I am totally, passionately, madly and forever in Love with him.

and They can't take that away from me.

sue hanes said...

abso - you can't hurt me anymore than I have been hurt.

like when I came to the realization that I really was in Love with Bill Maher.

Bill Maher.

Only the person all women - and men - are in love with - and he doesn't even know I exist - unless of course - he has been reading my Blog.

But you see - Abso - he has broken my Heart by his Very Existence.

many times over

The Absolute Marxist said...

Hey, it not gay if its' a three way. ;)

...and no, I'm NOT volunteering to join you and Bill... ;)

Thersites said...

...because my helicopter is more like a personal mini-fan.

...but that a tale for a different donkey.

sue hanes said...

thanks abso - Videos like this strike at the very Core of My Existence.

That was Andy Samberg - wasn't it.

I adore him - and the Entire Cast of SNL.

And by the way it's Saturday and I'll be tuning in. Wonder who's guest hosting tonight.
~~~
As far as three way - I'm too old for that stuff.
maybe at one time...
and really abso - who invited you?
: )
still....if you promise to wear your che guevera beret
sue hanes said...
Thersites - isn't a donkey sometimes called an *ss?
btw - Ther - are you into that 3 way stuff?
Thersites said...
As far as abso, FJ, Speedy, et al...
You might label me a "legionaire".
Thersites said...
isn't a donkey sometimes called an *ss?
You know, Sue, sometimes you can be a real Farquad.
sue hanes said...
Lord Farquaad -
Where does this genius stuff come from?
Thanks Thersites
sue hanes said...
Ther - If I were a Man I think I would like to be a Musketeer -
like in The Man In The Iron Mask
now there's a movie for the ages
Speedy G said...
Why would you want to be a Dumb*ss.... er-r-r-r-r-r... Dumas?
sue hanes said...
Because Speedy - They put the right man where he belonged.
But they didn't punish the bad guy too much - and his mother went to visit him occasionally.
and leonardo dicaprio did a great job in that one - as he always has.
sue hanes said...
I'm in the wrong place - Speedy.
why am I in the wrong place.
and am I ever going to be in the right?
Speedy G said...
I hate to tell you this, that the only cosmic force that gets us anywhere is the one staring us back in the mirror every morning when we look into it. And some Farquaads are better at getting us places are better than others. And some just make everyone shorter.
sue hanes said...
Speedy - thanks for more Farquaad.
But I ask myself - if there are really people who are so funny and so smart and they really exist - then why have I been riding in the
humdrumvee all my life?
hanging it up now and I shan't be back tonight anymore.
but i don't intend to cry myself to sleep tonight because I already did that this afternoon when I read the dedication of bill's old book true story almost drove me out of my mind and i really don't have far to go :O)
Thersites said...
Make sure to stop at 7-11 and get a Slurpy before you get there. It makes the trip all the more worthwhile.
