a christmas memory

Whoops!

That was the name of something Truman Capote wrote.

But I was thinking about what I could write - about a cherished childhood
Christmas memory today - and all I could come up with was - presents.

That's what I remember about what Christmas meant to me as a kid.

Getting presents.

We weren't rich - but neither were we poor - and my dad got me and my
sisters and brother ice skates one year.  Looking back - I see that as a pretty
good gift.  It was something that was fun and that we used a lot.  And it got
us outside - which was healthy.

I also remember believing in Santa Claus - and I still do.

Because I read once that of course kids are going to find out that there is no
Santa - but the article said that parents should be cautioned to encourage
children to have some sort of 'fantasy' to stimulate their Creativity.

I totally agree with that - because I'm nothing if not Creative.

And anyway - ever see Polar Express?

What a movie if you Believe in Santa.

and if i ever get to board the polar express i'm going to request that
tom hanks punch my ticket so it reads hang in there.

Stringing popcorn with a thread and needle...

...and then eating it off the tree for weeks.

Ah yes -Fj - cherished Christmas memories.

My mother told me last year about how it was to have candles burning on the Christmas tree - and how beautiful it was...

and about the bucket of water sitting nearby should it catch fire.
