Although I've spent more years studying the Presidents of the United
States - as a Special Interest - than I would like to admit - I really
have never been into - Christmas at the White House.
Mostly because it just seems a bit over the top for me.
They decorate the Place in a way that seems almost - how should I
say - Gaudy.
Christmas trees in every Room.
Although it is traditional - or so I've read - for one Special Tree to
have an ornate Ornament representing every State in the Union -
even Georgia. : (
And I read once that they keep stores like Macy's - and even Bonwit
Teller - open after hours - paying the employers overtime I hope - none
of that pro bono stuff - and a President is allowed to go in and browse -
and buy expensive gifts for the First Lady - and of course the First Kids.
And in the case of our Current President - the First Mother-in-Law.
But you know - I have a feeling that Our Most Unpopular Sitting President
would not want to do something like that. Why I bet that he went right
down there on Black Friday to pick something up for Michelle and the
girls. And of course something for Mrs. Robinson too. I bet he even got
into one of those BF brawls - where a man was injured so badly that even
CNN would not show it.
~~~
But seriously - when I do think of Christmas at the White House - I always
think of this:
Barney.
And the time he gave a Personal Guided Tour for the Press - of the Private
Parts in the White House - where the First Family resides.
Barney - as you may remember - was the Beloved Dog of President George
W. Bush - and he was really cute.
and I was always glad I checked that out at Christmas that year.
Because that was one of the Good Ones.
Kind of put me to shame after all I said about former President Bush.
The Barney Tour showed the Human side of George W. Bush.
and well -
it was really nice.
Why can't the President just surf Amazon.com like the rest of us?
Thersites - They go to the Really
Espensive Stores because:
to quote former President William Jefferson Clinton when asked why he did it to ML -
because I could
Well, at least Newt has a $500k credit line at Tiffany's. Barack's is likely only $250k.
I wouldn't know about that -Fj.
I'm not into jewelry.
although I do like that feather sticking out of your cap
:)
you aren't g*y are you -fj?
not that there's anything wrong with it
My avatar is a post-American Revolutionary War official portrait of Joseph Brandt, a Loyalist. The painter and American people who commissioned it didn't like Brandt very much at that point in history.
It's the eighteenth century resulting product of letting Barbara Streisand produce a movie starring her husband about the life of Ronald Reagan. Or of letting our MSM cover a Republican candidate.
fyi...
Political correctness in painting. How you are painted depends upon who paints you.
Speedy - the truth is I never paint people...
i'm simply not good enough
But I once did a pretty mean painting with a fair representation of a horse.
It even effects whether you are painted as an Englishman, a Native American, or an English/Irish "dandy" w/or w/o "Yankee Doodles" including "bucktails".
Words are merely colours for the writer's painting pallet.
-FJ - I love Words.
do you know who wrote:
a word is dead
when it is said
but I say
that it just
begins to live
that day
not sure I got that right
With our empty lives, we have all become flaneurs at heart (and in mind). Such is the "modern" experience.
-FJ - 'flaneurs'
The way I see it -FJ it this flaneur is the one who knows what he is doing and the people walking backwards are the ones who have their head up their ass.
Not exactly. Flaneurs are the one's whose lives are so empty that they wander around town selecting subject identities to assume because they have none of their own.
...living their own lives through the lives of other people.
La vie flaneur...
...and the historical flaneur
...jumping into the author's empty form/shell of words and becoming the protagonist, instead of going out into the "real world" and achieving actual deeds... no matter "grand" or "mundane" those deeds might be.
We live in the "age of the spectacle".
'whose lives are empty'
My life is far from empty -Speedy.
I paintn
I play the paino
I study Spanish
I blog
I have 7 grandchildrenn
At present I am decorating the Hell out of my house for Christmas - does that sound empty to you - Speedy?
Maybe you are the one whose life is 'empty.?
buh Speedy
Speedy - 'living their lives through the lives of other'
That's what you call Vicarious
Speedy,
and I have a shitload of dishes in both sinks from two days ago and there is garbage in among the dishes that is beginning to smell like garbage - and since I'm am a housewife I need to take care of that.
But when I return you can be sure I will answer each and every one of your questions - and everyone else's.
and when I do that I will use the big computer because I don't do well on a laptop.
:)
You're taking it a little bit personally, aren't you, Sue?
I was commenting on the general modern condition, not you, specifically. And I did say, "our", so I certainly was not intending to exclude myself from the category.
...but while we're on the subject, what the 'h was that at Z's? I thought "unity" was supposed to be your bag. You'd a thought it was me trying to catch an episode of Bill Maher's show.
Flaneurism - I'd call in the Hole in your Heart syndrome. Moving the objet petit 'a from the "other" to a form of "mindless consumerism" of quasi-emotional relationships.
-FJ - I Liked hole in my heart video - looked like a ows sideshow.
Are you lookin' for me to say that I've got a hole in my heart that can only be filled by bill?
Well I'm not gonna say it -fj.
still on the gd laptop btw - why you might ask
because my 'husband' is using the computer for a @%$^$ bb game
I'm glad you asked Speedy.
Ya see - I'm ok now.
But earlier I offered to paint a picture for Z and send it to her and she blew me off.
why?
Because Z paints too and she is really good. She doesn't paint like a housewife.
But I'll tell you something Speedy - my paintings are really good - and I never have 'offered' to paint something for someone -
let alone send it to calif. before
christmas - and well it hurt my feelings.
I'm over it now.
And I'll tell you another thing
speedy - I'd still do it because I respect z and she's lives in LA
knows a lot of celebrities has lived in Paris, etc.
And I'd be honored if she would accept my painting.
What you saw there is what happens when someone 'sets' me off.
That's why we don't have a handgun in the house.
Speedy - 'takin' it personally '
Let me put it this way speedy -
for a while now i've been spouting off about bill maher. see - saying things about him - putting myself right out there.
Now bill doesn't owe me anything - in fact there is a more than good chance that he doesn't even know I exist.
But I'm not sorry because what I feel about him is the real thing.
I'm prepared to live like this for the rest of my life - or go insane - which ever comes first.
Why - you might ask - because I'm 66 years old and I'm not fooling around anymore.
and that's all i'm going to say about that - for now.
You need to develop a thicker skin, Sue. There's a LOT of rejection out there, ESPECIALLY for budding artist/ musicians. And the only way to break through it, is to blow it off. It's not your problem, its' theirs. Don't be like Jane. You don't need other people's "acceptance". Besides, as Machiavelli noted, "Its' better to be feared than loved." ;)
JC - I thought you jumped ship.
it's not about thick skin - no one knows although I try to tell them.
I am a Creative person. That does not mean about doing crafts or painting.
It means J.Pollock and V. van Gogh and so vulnerable that someone - like z - can crush me in an instant.
Now I'm also like F. Gump - you think you know me but you don't.
I may appear maniputlaible but I'm not.
I Know What Love Is. i've never loved until about 4 months ago.
I will not settle for less.
I will die or go mad but I will not settle for less than I know I wnat and - can have.
and JC - whoever said I was a budding artist or pianist.
In my opinion I'm a budding housewife and I'm sick of wondering if that's all I'm gonna be.
I've had so many things dangled in front of me and NOTHING has happened.
I'm really pissed off about a lot of things.
And - well that's all
I have a quote that fits in very well here:
Whether or not you are going anywhere if you are sittingn in a taxi the meter is running.
-FJ - Children want the 'candy' they can't have.
Well Love is the candy I've never had and I want it.
And I'm going to get it even if I never do.
How do you "get" Grace?
Not by "works", THAT is for sure.
Speedy - Grace is a Gift from God.
After receiving Grace we do Good Works to Earn it.
Kinda like the Apostle Paul.
in a retroactive sort of way...
:)
Hey Speedy - Ya ever been to the
White House?
cause I was there once on one of those tours - and after we were
standing on the Front Porch and a car going by backfired - that's when you could drive by the First Residence - and man you should have seen the Doorman jump.
Like someone fired a shot or something.
talk about stupid - Speedy
As we started to get off of the bus I turned to one of the Ladies and said -
What's that big White Building ahead?
She said, 'That's the White House.'
and that's the first and last time I was ever there.
~~~
Of course George Washingto was never there.
President John Adams was the Frirst.
and there were Others...
The only Reason for the White House are the Portraits - Speedy.
I'd love to just wander - alone - room by room - and see how many I
could recognize.
Not at night - of course - for they say that the WH is Haunted.
