andrew johnson

Andrew Johnson was the 17th President of the United States.
He was born in 1808 in Raleigh, North Carolina, and died in
Tennessee of a stroke in 1875 - at the age of sixty-six.

Everything in this post is going to be based on an article about
Andrew Johnson - taken from the book Lives of the Presidents -
FAME, SHAME (and What the Neighbors Thought) written by
Kathleen Krull.

When I read this article over this morining I realized that it is
most likely the best article anyone could ever write about Andrew
Johnson and in it Krull tell us that:

~Andrew Johnson was sold by his impoverished parents and apprenticed
to a tailor at age 14

~Andrew Johnson's wife (Eliza) taught him how to read

~As President of the United States Andrew Johnson actually made his
own suits and this is where I would like to add something of my own:

I don't know if anyone reading this has ever sewn clothes - but I have and
let me tell ya folks that anyone - especially a President of the United States -
who can make a man's suit and look neat (which Kathleen Krull says that he
always did) then in my book that person is pretty special.

~If Andrew Johnson found mice in the White House he would leave flour
and water out for them.  : ]

~Andrew Johnson was - at the time this book was written - the only President
to be impeached

~And Andrew Johnson was the only former President to serve in the Senate
