Christmas Laughter (in March)

My family is very small ~ Eleven of us~Three are over 80~Three are over 60~Three are over 50~Two of us are sons.~~~Come Labor Day the quilts are taken from the clean white sheets in which they summered~~~We seldom have reason and need no excuse to polish the good silver~wash the tall stemmed glasses and invite one another into our homes.~~~We win at Bid Whist and lose at Canasta ~and eat the lightest miniature Parker House rolls~and the world's best five-Cheese macaroni and cheese.~~~I grill the meat~Mommy boils the beans.~Come first snow the apple cider with nutmeg...cloves...cinnamon...and just a hint of ginger brews every game day and night.~~~We have no problem luring Santa Claus down our chimney~~~~~~He can't resist the laughter.

Her work has always been very family oriented. I guess when you have 11 siblings it comes naturally. Unfortunately, in recent years, her poetry has become overshadowed by the events at V-Tech.

Cube - That is when I first noticed her - when she gave a speech at Virginia Tech. Her work always seems to focus on some boyfriend or lover. Her earlier work had more racism in it.

I like her style. I especially liked that poem I posted.

Giovanni used to be quite the activist, but she has mellowed over the years. So have we all :-)

Cube - From reading her poetry I can tell that she has mellowed.

Even you have mellowed. I know I have. I think - what's the use - and I look at things differently than I did a few years back! :]

I meant I've mellowed since my twenties... not since I started my blog in 2004.

If anything, the BO administration has hardened my conservative principles. There is so much that I object to, that I often have difficulty picking just one item.

Cube - That's what I thought you meant. You've mellowe since your younger days. I've mellowed since my fifties. That makes me sound old - doesn't it.

I can understand how the Obama administration has hardened your conservative principles. I would feel the same way if we had a conservative president. That's politics - isn't it.

Do you have the income tax done?
It's due on April 15th isn't it.

You're never old as long as you're young at heart. How's that for a diplomatic answer :-)

It is just politics. I try not to let it get in the way of interpersonal relationships. Agree to disagree works for me.

Everything was turned into our accounting firm at the very end of March and they're putting it together. We should get the returns soon. What about you?

Cube - I agree with your 'young at heart' comment. I don't feel as old as I am.

I don't think that politics should get in the way of personal relationships. It's not worth it.
Anyway - things change frequently in politics so it would be bad to let it get in the way.

Our taxes are not that complicated. My husband is able to do it himself. He finished it a while back because we will be taking a trip on next Friday and will be gone until the day before Easter. Going to Huntsville to visit our elder daughter and then he is going on to Florida to visit friends. I opted to stay with my daughter because it is such a long drive. That will give me some time with her that I don't normally get.

I don't feel or look as old as I am. I've been blessed with a good metabolism.

The only thing I have to do re: taxes, is file my youngest's return.

Months ago I suggested that she should do her own taxes this year and she replied, "Mom, I'm 19, I have a job, I'm a full-time college student, I do crew, and I coach crew, and you expect me to do my taxes too?"

Guilt trip for mom!

It will be super easy and won't take me long.

Cube - I've never done taxes so it would be difficult for me. I guess it's just a matter of figuring it out and filling in the blank spaces. If it weren't for my husband I'd probably have someone do it for me. : ]

Can you believe that it's April already. I guess we've seen the last of the snow here.

The program Turbo tax makes it very easy to file a simple tax return. Our tax situation is complicated, personal and business, so that's why we pay big bucks to our CPA to file for us.

The year has flown by for me, but it has felt like spring for a long time. Every time I go out to get the mail, I'm blasted with the perfume of our gardenia bush. Everything is in bloom.

I hope you have seen the last of snow. It's been a hard winter for many.

Cube - I hope your tax situation is over soon. I'm sure it is a problem for you. Even if someone else is doing it for you.

That sounds so nice - perfume of the gardenia bush. But how can you tell that spring is there when it is mild all year round?

Mostly now we have rain. Shouldn't have to worry about snow anymore.

Cube - I will be gone starting tomorrow - April 11 - to the 19th.

Happy Easter!

I filed my youngest daughter's taxes yesterday so my tax ordeal is over. Thank goodness for that.

We know it's spring if the humidity is low. Once summer gets here, it's vapor time. The heat & humidity really kick up then.

Happy Easter to you too. Enjoy your downtime.

Cube - I'm glad your tax time is over. Now you can kick back and enjoy life.

We know it's spring when the grass turns from brown to green.
Plus the temps are mild.

It's good to be back home but we had a good time at my daughter's.
