Business in Baltimore

There are some that may think that Gertrude Stein is crazy.  Not me - I think there is a method to her maddness. I like to read her work because you never know what is coming next. For example:
~Not narrow, long.~Julian is two.~How many and well.~And days and sank.~Thanks to having.~
Business in Baltimore thanks to having and days and sank how many and well Julian is two not narrow, long.~Julian is two how many and well thanks to having.~Once upon a time Baltimore was necessary.~How and would it be dressed if they had divided a bank and tan.~It connected at once it connected twice it connected doors and floors.~This is in May.~So they say.~How many places for scales are there in it.~Weigh once a day.~~~~~~~~~~And on and on it goes. Just as you think it is going to make sense - it doesn't.  Once in a while it does but it is more fun when it doesn't.

I never thought she was crazy. I've loved her work for a long time. You do have to know her to understand her work.

Cube - I find that I really enjoy reading her work. It's refreshing and I like the surprise of the change in subject that you get when you read it. Just when you think she is going to make sense -it doesn't. I'm glad you like her too.

She keeps you on your toes... I like that.

Sorry I haven't been around much. Tax time is really hectic around here.

Cube - That is a good way of putting it - she keeps you on your toes. I think that reading her work keeps your brain active.
Other works are very predictable but with Gretrude Stein you have to think - now what is going on here. Once in a while she makes sense and I find that I'm not interested in that - so much as the irregular stuff.

I have missed you. My husband is getting his papers around now for income tax time.

I've always preferred subjects that make me think. I find repetitive work or derivative material boring.

That brings me to tax time, my least favorite time of the year. It's very stressful for my husband and me. Thankfully, it will be over soon.

Cube - I'm reading a book about philosophy and at the end they talk all about Star Trek and how it is famous for philosophy and give a lot of examples. I hadn't realized that that was so. I thought about you and I'm sure you would know what they were talking about.

What's the book? I'm curious. I'm very familiar with Trek's positive philosophy for the future... maybe that's why I love it so much. I may think of myself as a cynic, but people who know me argue that I'm not.

Cube - The book is:

Essentials of Philosophy: The Basic Concept of the World's
Greatest Thinkers.

By James Mannion

It would be good if you could get this book. He spends a lot of time discussing the contribution of Star Trek to philosophy.

I think you would like it.

I don't think of you as a cynic.
Sometimes you come across that way but then you cancel that out with other ways.

I'm definitely going to look up that book.

As I said, I think of myself as a cynic... maybe I'm just being cynical ;-)

Cube - I'm glad you are going to check out the book..

I think you just like to think you are a cynic - it makes you feel tough. You are really a pussycat. :] We all have a bit of cynic in us - don't you think?

You know, you may be right about the cynicism... I definitely don't like feeling like a weak woman... maybe it makes me feel tough when I'm a cynic. Who knows?

Cube - I don't think you are a weak woman. You never come across like that. But I don't see the cynic in you. You are just strong.
