Happy Earth Day!

In spite of horrendous pollution, endangered species and other harm we do to our planet - we still have a wonderful planet to live on.  With beauty of the trees, mountains, flowers and all types of
greenery to make us happy  - we have a lot to celebrate on Earth Day. Let's take care of Earth - so our children will have a good place to live in the future.

I have nothing against the Earth, but I have always wanted to visit Mars.

sue hanes said...

Cube - But why? There is nothing there - at least that we know of. :]

cube said...

Maybe I just wanna get away ;-)

sue hanes said...

Cube - There are a lot better places to go to 'get away.' But if you wanna go to Mars to get away then that is your choice. Sooner or later we're going to go there. You might as well be the one. Do you think that they have the internet on Mars?

cube said...

Remember that the Mars of my childhood was a planet of mystery. We didn't know if there were Martians or other exotic flora and fauna. Just the place for a little kid with a very vivid imagination.

Now we know that the Martians are us.

We won't get to Mars in my lifetime, but by the time we do, and I believe we will, the Internet will be a thing of the past, much like the horse and buggy is now.

I guess if I want to get away I can always go to the Bahamas.

sue hanes said...

Cube - That's right. Mars was the home of little green men.

What will replace the internet?

If you want to get away you can go to Florida. Wait a minute - you are in Florida. I guess the Bahamas it is.

cube said...

Little green men AND women, otherwise how did we get the little green men in the first place.

I don't know what will replace the internet, maybe holograms that you can actually touch and vice versa.

We poor Floridians have to go to the Caribbean to go someplace more tropical. Such a dilemma.

I'd love to take a Caribbean cruise, but my husband has never been good around boats. He gets very quiet (i.e., nauseous) and, consequently, no fun to be with. I'm the only sailor in the family.

sue hanes said...

Cube - Good point about the little green men and women!

I can't imagine life without the internet but everything has to fade away sometime.

I am not a boat person either. I don't like to go out in the deep water. My husband does. So he goes and I stay on shore. I wouldn't like a cruise. Too confining and I understand it is windy all of the time up on deck.
Although there is usually good food to be had.

I don't like the fact that this time of year has tornadoes. This year seems to be no exception.

cube said...

Everything does fade away with time.

Your husband like boats and mine hates the. Opposite attract, don't they?

From what I've heard, the food on cruises is spectacular. Imagine getting the norovirus on board and not being able to keep anything down? That would be so cruel.

The tornadoes, especially the last couple of days, have been tragic. Here in Florida, we can run from hurricanes, but tornadoes give very little warning.

sue hanes said...

Cube - Yes - opposites attract.

There have been so many cruises that have had problems that I can't believe people still go on them.

I grew up around tornadoes but have been lucky to not have had them hit where I was living. It is true that there is very little warning. But I know that hurricanes are devestating. It seems that there is no 'good' natural disaster. When there is a tornado warming we go outside to check it out rather then going to the basement. Smart - huh?

cube said...

I still want to go on a cruise... I'll just wash my hands more obsessively than I usually do.

I don't have much experience with hiding from tornadoes. The only place I've ever lived that had basements was NYC and we didn't have tornadoes.

I do remember years ago my husband calling me while driving as he watched a waterspout in the bay. I was yelling at him to get to safety before that thing decided to hit the ground and become a tornado.

sue hanes said...

Cube - I'm afraid washing your hands won't help if you are on a cruise and the stomach flu broke out.

Tornadoes are tricky. I remember driving around after a tornado hit near our town. A house on one side of the road was demolished and then the next house was untouched. The tornado crossed the road and got one there and then skipped back to the other side. I hope I never have to be in one.

We are having cooler weather here. I wonder when the really warm weather is going to come.

cube said...

Yeah, I guess so. I'd have to hope on my immune system to keep the cooties away.

Tornadoes are completely unpredictably. That's why thery're so scary.

Today (Friday) we had rain, but we've have beautiful Windex blue skies for days. I've been getting some tan on my winter white skin.
I'll look like a Floridian soon.

sue hanes said...

Cube - I got some sunburn at a baseball game not too long ago.
But it really didn't turn into a tan. I try to avoid the sun so that it doesn't wrinkle my old skin. When I was younger I got some good tans.

We are having beautiful weather.
Hovering around 70. No rain for a few days. Yay!

cube said...

I've gotten some really bad sunburns in my day, but lately I just try for 30 minutes a day... for the vitamin D. It's not immediate, but it adds up. Gimme another month and I'll have a nice golden tan.

Right now, my husband can tell you I glow in the dark ;-)

sue hanes said...

Cube - We are having suntan - glow in the dark weather coming up. 87 degrees by Wednesday. It's going to feel good.

No rain for a week or so. That will be good too.

cube said...

Ahhh... I think part of me is reptilian because I love to bask in the sun.

sue hanes said...

Cube - Are you a lizard or a snake?

cube said...

I'm whichever is more of a polyhedron ;-)

sue hanes said...

Cube - You would be something scientific. I had to look that word up in the dictionary and it sounded like something you would want to be.

I'm just a square.

cube said...

Sue, you have a knack for finding me scientifically creepy. I'm just a normal woman who happens to have a lifelong interest in science and math, gets along with her family and her neighbors.

I just used the word polyhedron because I couldn't pick between snakes and lizards. I love them both.

BTW a polyhedron is basically a 6 sided square, so if you refer to yourself as square, you may call yourself a polyhedron as long as we include some extra dimensions.

sue hanes said...

Cube - I don't find you creepy in any way. I just think you are a scientic person. I'm sure you get along with your family and neighbors. Anyway - there's nothing wrong with being scientific.

Although I do think it is a bit creepy that you love snakes and lizards. : ] (just kidding)

I'd be proud to be a polyhedron.

cube said...

So you DO think I'm creepy... don't worry , lots of people do. They don't like snakes, lizards , frogs and turtles and I'm the first one to pick one up.

One day,we took my daughters and my niece and nephew to the Florida Aquaurium.

My sister-in-law and I were sitting next to a turtle display and a large turtle kept crawling out of its area and climbing onto my thigh. The Aquarium worker put the turtle back into its pen bunch of times and finally gave up. I ended up putting the turtle back in its pen many, many times.

My daughters came up with the fact that I was not a cat, a dog charmer, a baby charmer, but also a turtle charmer.

sue hanes said...

Cube - So you are a turtle charmer. I like turtles. My granddaughter has a pet turtle and I think it's really cute. That turtle in the aquarium knew that you liked it and just kept coming back for more.

Frogs I'm not so crazy about. And of course lizards and snakes too.

I do NOT think you are creepy - about anything. Lots of people like snakes and lizards. You just happen to be one of them. :]

cube said...

Thank you for that. I'm glad I don't seem creepy to all people just because I'm the first one to reach out for a creepy-crawly.

Here's a segway... I hope your Mother's Day was a good one and you had all your personaly creepy-crawly critters around you :-)

sue hanes said...

Cube - If you are referring to my grandchildren as creepy-crawlers then yes - I had three of them around me. Plus my daughter.

We went for a walk and saw dozens of creepy-crawlers - caterpillars.
They were everywhere. They don't bother me like some creepy-crawlers do.

You do not seem at all creepy to me.

cube said...

Yes, I meant your grandkids and family and I'm glad you had an opportunity to spend valuable time with them.

You may want to rethink that when I tell you that I referred to my girls as my little bugs and occasionally as pupae, but the latter term was just to get them to use a dictionary to look up a big word.

Not your average household, but both of my girls are smart, athletic and independent.

sue hanes said...

Cube - You wouldn't want to have an average household - now would you. I'm sure your household is above average.

What more could you ask - if your girls are smart, athletic and independent. Actually - my girls are the same.

I need to spend valuable time with my grandkids - at least three of them - since in August they are going overseas - longterm
as missionaries. I'll miss them.

cube said...

When I used the term 'not your average household', I think I meant an household that wasn't conventional., but then again, I guess we can find a million philosophers that can argue the meaning of conventional, right?

Anyway, I'm glad our girls all turned out well.

Definitely spend time with your grandkids. My grandmother and I were very close and I still miss her dearly. Memories with her are still vivid and will stay with me forever.

sue hanes said...

Cube - You are so right that there are many meanings for conventional. Yes - I am happy that the girls turned out well.
I always felt good that when they were in college that I knew they were not out drinking and I always knew where their minds were.

I find that my grandkids are not as close to me as they get older. I can ony hope that they will remember the good times we had when they were growing up.

cube said...

If my girls are anything like I was, then I can't be sure what they're up to... I just hope their upbringing was good enough to keep them out of trouble.

I hope your grandkids can keep your early alive. I still miss my paternal grandmother and she's been dead since 1999. The good
memories never fade.

cube said...

Sorry. I meant that I hope your grandkids can keep the early memories alive.

sue hanes said...

Cube - Your daughters upbringing will stay with them and help to keep them out of trouble. I'm sure they will be influenced by what you taught them - some of it by example.

I know that my grandkids will remember the good times. It's just that now their lives are taken up with their friends and activities. Especially the oldest one - who is almost 15.

cube said...

I hope so. So far so good. They've turned out better than I did.

sue hanes said...

Cube - What do you mean 'they turned out better than I did.'

You seem to me like a pretty good person. Don't be so hard on yourself.

cube said...

I've mellowed in my old age. Growing up, I used to be a bit impetuous and I'm glad my daughters, so far, have been less so.

sue hanes said...

Cube - I'll bet your old age isn't as old as my old age. I've mellowed in mine. One good thing about old age is that you can sort out the things that aren't important.

My daughters also have not picked up my bad points. I'm proud of what they have become.
