SHUTDOWN

The biggest thing I don't understand about this shutdown is that Congress will still get paid.~~~~~~

Our troops will not draw their paychecks - but the people responsible for the shutdown - Congress - will still get their money.~~~~~~Our national parks and the Smithsonian will be closed - that is sad.~~~~~Why is this so unbalanced. ~~~~~~The ordinary citizen has to pay for the whims of
Congress.~~~~It doesn't make sense.~~~~~~Oh- and the president should take a paycut also.

It's a horrible situation. I agree that Congress should take a cut as well, but don't hold your breath over that.

I do believe that the active combat fighters will still get paid, but it's the vets that may have to get an a IOU. That's still bad.

Cube - It is horrible - isn't it.

I wonder how long they will let it go on. Not long - I hope.

cube said...

Maybe not too long.

sue hanes said...

Cube - You are optimistic. I see no sign that it will be a short one.

But I only hope they will come to their senses and end this thing.

It is embarrassing to think of what other countries must think of us.

sue hanes said...

Cube - Where are you?

cube said...

I'm sorry. I've been so out of it. It's that collapsed lung that I got this January.

When I asked when my lung would be normal again, my pulmonologist said it was the new normal. My internist said it would about a year. And his PA said it could be forever.

Anyway, it acted up this weekend.

sue hanes said...

Cube - I'm so sorry that your lung is giving you problems. I won't nag you about it. Just take it easy and I hope it gets better soon.

cube said...

It's like a cold only it lasts a day and then it goes away. It's the weirdest thing, but I have been forewarned.

sue hanes said...

Cube - You need to be sure to take care of yourself. Your health comes first.

I've never had any lung problems. But it must be scary at times.

cube said...

It's new to me. I never even got sick before this January. I had my tonsils out when I was 5 and then I was in the hospital to give birth to my daughters, but that was it.

sue hanes said...

Cube - Same here. I did have a urinary track infection which had me hospitalized but that's it.

Sounds as if you need to watch it -that you need to be careful that it doesn't get worse. And come back on you.

cube said...

Gosh, you sound like my husband... the nag factor. I guess I'll just go to yet another doctor.

sue hanes said...

Cube - Dr.Sue here. I have heard that pneumonia stays with you the older you get. Once you have it it is easier to get it again.

Just trying to look out after you.
I'm glad you have your husband to nag you too!

You are important to us.

cube said...

Sue, I don't have pneumonia. My lung just collapsed one day and none us knows why. Now there's scar tissue at the base of the lung and it continues to be a problem.

sue hanes said...

Cube - I thought you had pneumonia.
Sorry to hear about the scar tissue. I hope the doctor is working onn finding out what the problem is. What are the symptoms of having the scar tissue?

cube said...

The base of the lung, where the scar tissue is, aches every time I breathe. I'm sick of taking meds for the pain so lately I'm just trying to get used to it.

Since I was released from the hospital, I've a few incidents where I cough a lot from that lung, but it goes away in a day or so.

I guess it's time for a new round of tests.

sue hanes said...

Cube - That is not good - that your lung aches when you breathe.
Do you expect that it will clear up soon? Sorry to hear that you have that to put up with.

I hope the new tests will help you get rid of the pain.

We are getting into fall now with the temps going down and the rain is back.

cube said...

Having a lung that aches with every breath beats a lung that doesn't breathe. Just trying to look at it in a positive way.

It sounds worse than it is. Lately it's seemed better. Either I've improved or I've gotten used to it.

BTW I don't think any test is going to improve my condition. They're going to tell me that I'm unchanged, better, or worse. Not something I'm looking forward to either way.

sue hanes said...

Cube - I'm so sorry that you have this condition. I hope that it's gotten better rather than that you are used to it.

I hope you don't mind but I'm going to put you on my prayer list.
I believe in that - that it helps.

cube said...

Thank you. I'm happy to be on your prayer list.

sue hanes said...

Cube - I always ask the person as some people don't want to be prayed for.

I believe in prayer - and I like to pray for people - it makes me feel good.

I don't know if it works - but I like to think it does.

cube said...

I don't understand why some people feel that way. Even if you're an atheist, what can it hurt to have someone pray for you?

I don't know if it works, but I like
to think that prayer works too.

cube said...

Don't remember who said it...

"If you believe, no proof is necessary,

If you don't believe, no proof is possible".

sue hanes said...

Cube - There are two things that I believe about prayer. It makes the person praying feel good about it.
It makes them think that they are doing something. Even if you never know for sure. I like to pray for people I don't know - just to have faith that it works.

Then for the person being prayed for - it gives comfort and strength to that person.

I've heard that saying before. And it is true. Faith needs no proof.

cube said...

Sue, pray on for me because I will definitely appreciate it. Your prayers will not be wasted. I promise.

sue hanes said...

Cube - You can be sure that I''m praying for you if I say I will.
No prayers are wasted.

cube said...

I never thought they would be wasted. I'm grateful for all the help.

sue hanes said...

Cube - I wish I could reach out and take away the scar tissue on your lung. That's what prayer does instead. It just reaches out and helps whatever is needed.

I like to pray. It helps me as much as it does the one I am praying for.

And by the way - fall is here. We had frost on the grass this morning. The temmps are lower. No more a/c until spring.

sue hanes said...

Cube - Couldn't delete the second one. So I guess if you didn't get it the first time - you can read it again.

cube said...

Wouldn't it be devilish if you changed a few words in what was supposedly an accidentally second sent email...

heh heh

sue hanes said...

Cube - Your comment brought a smile to my lips. Like when people say things and they think the microphone is off.

Remember when Reagan said that 'bombing starts in 5 minutes.'

cube said...

I'm all about devilish thoughts.

BTW I thought Reagan's comment was amazing. It was a joke, but it made the Russians think twice.

sue hanes said...

Cube - I have a few devilish thoughts myself.

There are a lot of comments that have been made unawares.

There was once a guy who was hosting a children's show and when they went to a commercial he said -thinking the microphone was off: 'that ought to hold the little b*st*rds for a while.'

I always thought that one was great. I think he got fired.

cube said...

It wan't Art Linkletter was it? He was usually pretty good with kids.

sue hanes said...

Cube - It wasn't Art Linkletter. It was someone I hadn't heard of.

Yes - Art Linkletter was very good with kids.

I always thought that was funny. But I'm sure the guy who did it wasn't too happy about being fired.

I watch HLN Morning Express in the mornings, and the anchor, Robin Meade, has often joked about wishing we could hear what they talk about during breaks. I think we'd be shocked to know that, although they appear perfect on TV, they're human like the rest of us and say inappropriate things sometimes.

Just make sure if the microphone is on or the camera is watching.

sue hanes said...

Cube - You are right that they are human like the rest of us. And I'm sure they do say things that might shock us if the microphone is still on or the camera is still rolling.

We tend to say pretty much what we want on our blogs - don't we.

cube said...

Oh no, I write stuff on my blog as though my beloved grandmother was watching over me. I would never say anything that might offend her.

What I think is one thing; what I write is another.

sue hanes said...

Cube - Once in a while I see things on your blog that might offend your grandmother. But for the most part your blog is clean as a whistle.

You have a good blog. I like the box format and the newsy part of it. Things I might not know otherwise.

Keep up the good work. :]

cube said...

You don't know my grandmother ;-) She was a pistol and very foreward thinking, for her time, and taught me many life lessons before she died.

That's why I write with her behind me and not my mom. I love my mom, but she's totally different.

sue hanes said...

Cube - Your grandmother sounds a lot like me - as a grandma. I have to be careful what I teach my grandkids as my daughters are not like me.

Don't get me wrong - but I am more worldly than my daughters. They can be naive about life. I am more realistic.

cube said...

As you know, I don't have grandchildren yet, but I did have a similar experience with my nephew.

At a family gathering, I gave my nieces a little girly thing filled with candy and I gave my nephew a super hero Pez dispenser filled with Pez candy. It's a small amount of candy.

Turns out my nephew had never had candy before. My sister didn't say anything or make a scene, but I could tell she was seething because I know my sister.

I felt really bad, but I also feel bad for my nephew. What kid doesn't have candy? Candy was huge in my life when I was a kid. I'm not saying give them candy all the time, but occasionally it's not so bad.

sue hanes said...

Cube - When a child doesn't have something - there's a good chance that he will want it later in life.
And if your nephew was deprived of candy as a child - he may have it a lot later. Do you know what I mean?

Same with my daughter's children - they will most likely crave what they were deprived of early on.

This may not be true of all kids - but it could happen.

cube said...

I think you're right about depriving kids. My sister shouldn't deprive my nephew from all candy. Then again my little nephew might become a dentist ;)

sue hanes said...

Cube - I hope your little nephew doesn't become a dentist. Although dentists are very nice people and make a lot of money - I don't like to go to the dentist. Never have and still don't.

And now I have to get ready to answer the door. Because Halloween was postponed until today because of the rain we didn't get - the little buggers will be ringing the doorbell.

Including my own grandchildren.

cube said...

I wouldn't care if he became a dentist. We don't like them but we still need them. Whatever. He'll become whatever he wants to become.
BTW I hope you gave your grandchildren kids lots of candy.

Off topic: I'm all by myself tonight. My youngest is off to Tennessee with my husband for a big crew event and my eldest is at the Marine Core Ball with her boyfriend.

sue hanes said...

How do you entertain yourself when you are all alone?

cube said...

I read. I write. I watch TV. My house is a zoo... I enjoy the quiet when I can get it.

sue hanes said...

What do you write?

cube said...

Mostly a journal. I have written fiction in the past, lately not so much.

sue hanes said...

Cube - I don't keep a journal but I have written some short stories which I thought were pretty good but nothing became of them.

I would like to be an author.

cube said...

Keeping a journal has been a big part of my life. I kept stuff my girls said when they were growing up, and that little black book doesn't fail to make them laugh out loud whenever they pick it up and read it.

My personal journal is one my girls like to sneak into and the little one will post stuff that she reads in my journal on Tumbler. I'm thinking WTF? Don't do that without permission first. Please.

sue hanes said...

That is a good idea to keep a journal about things your girls said and did. I should have done that. I have certain things in my mind to remember but I'm sure I've forgotten some good ones.

cube said...

If it hadn't been for that journal, I would've missed so much. I'm glad I did it. So are the girls.

That doesn't answer the question about my youngest taking my words and putting on Tumbler. You agree that she has no right to do that without my permission?

sue hanes said...

Cube - What is Tumbler? Is that like Facebook?

I agree that she should have gotten your permission before using your words.

sue hanes said...

cube said...

Tumbler is like Facebook only it appeals to a younger crowd. My daughter has been warned about using my words without permission.

sue hanes said...

I hadn't heard of Tumbler until now.

You are smart to warn your daughter about using your words without your permission. I hope she is heeding your warning.

Weather: gloomy, rainy day. We are losing a lot of our beautiful,
colorful leaves.

cube said...

The girls still sneak a peek here and there at my Daytimer/journal just to see what I write, but there will be no more entries on Tumbler without permission.

We've had nice weather lately, low humidity, and all the trees are green.

sue hanes said...

Good that you are being firm about that. Kids will do what they can get away with.

We are in for a few really nice days coming up. Cool and sunny. No rain for about 5 days.

Is this your nice season?

cube said...

No, my favorite season is summer. I love the heat and the vapor. I'm a tropical flower. For me, the only good thing about fall is football.

sue hanes said...

Speaking of football - the Miami
Dolphins are having a problem.

What do you think about it?

cube said...

I have a hard time thinking that an almost 300 pound man was being bullied. Had I been his size, I would've popped Incognito in the face and ended the whole thing. It's the NFL. We expect them to fight to win. They're not little wimps. You don't go home crying about someone saying something you don't like.

I grew up in Manhattan and if you didn't fight for yourself, the bullies would take over. I learned early how to look out for myself.

sue hanes said...

Cube - Just because he weighs 300 pounds doesn't mean he is going to use his weight against others.
He has the right to speak out if
someone is bullying him.

I grew up in a small town where I was never bullied. But there were boys in our school who did bully others. I wish I had spoken out against them.

sue hanes said...

You are mad at me - aren't you.

cube said...

I've always told you that you are free to speak your mind. If I don't like one of your comments, I'll definitely let you know and we can hash it out. Believe me, you're free to speak.

sue hanes said...

Thanks. I keep forgeting that you said that. I like to be able to speak my mind. I don't want to just say things to please you.

sue hanes said...

On the other hand - I like our
'conversations' and I don't want to lose you. But if I can't speak my mind that's not good either.
