Hey, I recycle and I'm all for taking care of our planet, but had they listened to me, WE would've had Mars, too.
A base on the moon would've made it very easy to send off a rocket into space without the exorbitant cost of the Shuttles fighting Earth's gravitational force.
Oy, I'm so proud that you think so highly of my itsy bitsty teeny weeny blog today, but I was a mere child at the time these programs should have put into motion. Too late now. Yes, I was that kind of child, but who listens to them?
I understand how you can say that you didn't want the other side to run the country, but I don't understand how you can say that the country pretty much runs itself. If that's the case, then it doesn't matter who runs the country... so why not the GOP?
Maybe our disagreement has to do with state vs. federal powers. I don't like the feds having so much power over our lives. Case in point: the Boston marathon bombing.
I know you're not from Boston, but how do you feel about the feds going house to house and searching for the bomber? Wasn't it a bit hostile to search someone's house without a warrant?
I'm not looking to be hostile here... just an honest discussion.
Cube - 'So why not the GOP?' Because I'm a liberal - a Democrat. And I would rather continue with what we have then take a chance on a new party running the country.
I didn't think anything about the feds searching the houses since there was a possible terrorist at large.
Sue, my point is that if you say that the country can 'run itself' then the party in control doesn't matter because the country will run any which way, no problem. You can't have it both ways.
Anyway...
I have enough liberals in my family to know when I must agree to disagree.
My husband's family hails from New England, now mostly from Cape Cod. Yes, liberal country. Funny how a conservative like myself fell into such a liberal family :-)
What can I say...the heart goes where the heart goes.
And yes, the discussions at our dinner table are quite animated, but I think you would find them entertaining.
Cube - You are a conservative in a liberal family. It is just the oposite for me. I am completely surrounded by conseratives. My family and friends are all conservative - and thus we don't have political discussions - to keep the peace.
No lively discussions at dinner? That doesn't sound like fun. Come over to our house for good conversation and good food.
Even when our girls were little, we would encourage them to discuss what they learned at school that day. Whether we agreed or not didn't matter, the topic was always open.
I don't see the liberals in my family more than three or four times a year and some of them are becoming more conservative as time goes by. It's all good.
She's a hard charger so I know she'll be working like a fiend to earn money, but there will be some down time, too. She left a lot of friends behind when she went to school in Alabama, so there will be much reconnecting with them.
As for the food... Spanish food, Cuban food, Armenian/Lebanese food, Italian food ... and some pretty darn good chili :-) At this point, I think she'd even welcome plain old meatloaf because it's home cooking.
BTW I haven't always been a foodie... When I was newly married, I burned water once. Really. I've learned a lot over the years. Thank goodness for Betty Crocker and the Food Network.
Cube - I can't say that I really like tofu - kind of spoungy - but I lost a lot of weight by becoming a vegetarian - and it seems like the best way to keep it off - so I continue to eat it. I am partially a vegan - but not entirely.
When we eat out in restaurants I manage to get vegetarial dishes so that helps.
We live in a college town where it is easy to ge food like that.
My chili isn't that hot, but it's very tasty. Over the years, as the girls have gotten older, I've made it a little hotter, but there's only a little spicy kick to it.
I cut up the tofu into small enough pieces that it's not detected unless you're a tofu detective ;-)
Cube - It's a date. Sounds really good to me. I don't usually like corn bread but we had some the other night at a restaurant that was so good. I'm sure not as good as yours - though.

*sigh*
Cube - Apparently 'they' don't read your scientific blog and haven't a clue how brilliant you are.
Thus - no trip to Mars.

Cube - Maybe one of these days they will listen to a child scientist - and the world will be a better place.
Do you think that will happen?
No. Children running the world is a bad idea... uh, wait a minute, isn't that what's happening now?
;-)
Comon, Sue. I couldn't resist. You know how I feel about this administration.
No problem - Cube. I just didn't think I wanted the other side to run the country.
In a way - the country runs itself.
It was set up for all of the different segmemts - including the people to keep things in check.
And with bloggers - they can't get away with anything.
Right?

Cube - That is just an expression about how something can run itself.
Don't take it so seriously.
So you have liberals in your family. I'd like to be a mouse and listen in to some of your discussions!
My husband's family hails from New England, now mostly from Cape Cod. Yes, liberal country. Funny how a conservative like myself fell into such a liberal family :-)

Cube - I've read that famillies who encourage conversation at the dinner table have kids who do better at school.
The grandchildren at our house provide the lively conversation - sometimes much to my dismay.
We do have good food - though.
Maybe it's true. Both of our girls got scholarships.
Speaking of my girls... my baby is coming home from the University of Alabama this Friday. We're all very happy here...
*squeal*
Speaking of good food... there will be prodigious amounts of that, too. My daughter has missed home cooked meals. I'll be busy cooking this weekend.
Cube - I know how excited you must be that your daughter is coming home.
What is she doing this summer?
What kind of food are you cooking?
She's a hard charger so I know she'll be working like a fiend to earn money, but there will be some down time, too. She left a lot of friends behind when she went to school in Alabama, so there will be much reconnecting with them.

Cube - I love meatloaf. I don't eat meat anymore but I still fix it for the family when they come.
And I love Mexican food. Is that what you mean by Spanish food?
You gave up eating meat? How do you get your proteins?
BTW I love Mexican food too, but it's nothing like Spanish food.
Cube - Tofu and other sources.
I like tofu myself, but my husband wants meat. If he knows tofu is in a dish, he gets fussy so I just don't tell him when I use it.
Cube - I can't say that I really like tofu - kind of spoungy - but I lost a lot of weight by becoming a vegetarian - and it seems like the best way to keep it off - so I continue to eat it. I am partially

I guess it's spelled spongy :]
It can be spongy, but it depends on how you cook it. I put it in my mean chili and nobody knows but me ;-)
Cube - Mean chili - that's funny.
I know when tofu is in something.
At least I think I do...
Cube - Why do you call it 'mean'?
Is it spicey hot? Or just really good.
My chili isn't that hot, but it's very tasty. Over the years, as the girls have gotten older, I've made it a little hotter, but there's only a little spicy kick to it.
I cut up the tofu into small enough pieces that it's not detected unless you're a tofu detective ;-)
Cube - I wonder if I'm a tofu detective. I'd love to try your mean spicy chili! : ]
Lol. Maybe you are ;-)
OK, let's make it a meal. I'll make corn bread and put some beers on ice.
Cube - It's a date. Sounds really good to me. I don't usually like corn bread but we had some the other night at a restaurant that was so good. I'm sure not as good as yours - though.
