I'm glad you and your family had a good Easter. To be honest, early on Easter morning, we had a bit of a dust up between Mr. Cube and our eldest daughter over her having to work that day. The friction resolved itself and all was good in world again.
Cube - I'm glad you got things worked out on Easter morning. You are so right that we live in interesting times. Things have changed so much from when I was young. It's hard to know what to do in this world where everyone has different opinions and beliefs.
My beliefs haven't changed but I do think we have to respect others.
Our house is a loud house. Our girls were raised to think for themselves and sometimes the discussions can get heated, but it never lasts long.
I hate interesting times. I often wonder how people lived through the tumult of WWII, but I figure if they could survive that horror, then I could survive today.
I do think people have always had the same problems, but the difference is that people are more vocal about them today. I never heard about erectile dysfunction until I was an adult, yet little children today hear about it all day long.
Cube - I think the very same thing - we have lived through so many tough times - the Civil War - the World Wars - the riots in our cities - you name it and we have had it. We will get through this one too.
I agree about the ads that are on tv. And how the kids are exposed to so much more than we were. The ads are just as bad as the programs - or worse. And they play them over and over - during what I would consider family time.
I do not think it is going to get worse - I think it will cycle itself out and people will get tired of how it is now.
Know what I mean?
I'm glad your girls have been taught to speak out and have their own opinions. My girls are their own persons and I like that.
I know exactly what you mean. I'm so old that I remember having my very own 19 inch screen Sylvania and watching Sheriff Andy Taylor and Gomer Pyle on it. There may have been ED back stage, but we sure as heck didn't have to hear about it.
I blame Bob Dole for bringing up ED in the first place, but if it hadn't been him, it would've been someone else. Oh my goodness, can you imagine John Stamos talking about ED? ;-)
Cube - I know it's hard (pun) for those who have ED - but by now you'd think those who need help have it and we wouldn't have to hear so much about it.
Commercials are so predominent it's discouraging. We watch the Nightly News and toward the end that's all there is.
I'm leaving in a while for an overnight visit with my daughter and her kids. So that will be a nice break from commercials. Just little kids stuff for a day or so.
More and more, I find myself DVR-ing (is that a verb now?) a show and just fastforwarding (another verb?) through the commercials.
The family stuff sounds like fun. I have a niece and a nephew that are 3 and 3.5 respectively and having them in my orbit is always wonderful. I expect grandchildren will be that as well.
Cube - That is a good idea. My husband records the b-ball games - some of them - and it's amazing how fast you can go through them without the commercials.
Yes - grandchildren are a joy - although the little boys can get on your nerves if they are in the house for too long. But if you want to see them you do have to put up with some of that.
No doubt that blowing past epic commercials makes for a better viewing experience.
I was a bit of a tomboy growing up so I was always better with little boys than with little girls, but that's just me. I think boys are easier to deal with... just throw a ball and they're happy. Girls are harder. I know, I have two of them. They have grown into both brainy and athletic women... best of both worlds, eh?
My girls aren't as nerdy about math and science as I am, but they are both very intelligent. Back in my day, it wasn't "cool" to be the brainiac girl... maybe things haven't changed that much, eh?.
I was a runner and a tennis player in my youth. I wrecked my knees so now I mostly walk. I still have "bean-ability", i.e. the ability to hit anything I'm aiming to hit. My girls love that about me.
Mr. Cube played hockey and baseball as a kid and now loves golf. He is very excited that I'm thinking of taking lessons. I think I could play golf into my golden years.
Cube - Although I don't mind watching golf on tv - it is one sport that I can' t imagine doing. But I find that so many people are fanatic about it.
Either you don't like it or you love it.
I was never an athletic person - but I do like some sports - such as basketball and football. I like to watch tennis some. One sport I have trouble understaning is soccer.
I don't like the hype that goes with team sports - such as basketball - but that goes along with it.
I was always an athletic girl, but not enthusiastic about golf. I thought it was boring. Then I met my husband who grew up playing golf.
So early in our relationship, I made a casual comment to my husband that I might like to try golf one day. Well, he immediately ran out and bought me a set of clubs and proceeded to teach me how to play. Big mistake.
In my typical competitive fashion, I kept trying to hit (i.e., kill) the ball and it frustrated him to no end. For the sake of our marriage, I gave up golf and concentrated on tennis where I could effectively smash the ball to my heart's delight.
I'm older now and much more mellow. I understand that golf involves finesse and not so much raw power. I have grown to appreciate the game.
Besides, it's great exercise and most golf courses are beautiful and, in our area, full of wild life. During his last round this week, my husband said he almost stepped on a little gator. To me, that's a good thing.
I do want to take golf lessons, but this time it will be from a golf pro... anyone but my husband :-)
Cube - Tennis is not the sport for bad knees. At least with golf it is possible to use golf carts if walking any distance is a problem.
I used to have problems with my knees but strangely enough they improved with age.
Are you going to watch the Masters? We wiill be watching it. There is a guy in it that went to high school with my daughter so my husband follows him closelly. His name is D.A. Points. He recently won a tournament. How about that young kid who will be playing!
Don't feel as though you have to apologize to me about whom you do or do not admire. If I disagree, and I often do, I will argue the merits of your decision with you, but it will be a fair and honest debate.
Tiger & Bubba made some very immoral choices in their lives... would you honestly be so forgiving of them had they been outwardly conservative?
Funny that we'd be talking about both Bill Clinton and Tiger Woods right now. Clinton was a notorious cheater at golf and now Tiger finds himself in some hot water.

Hi Mike - It's good to hear from you. Thanks for your comment.
I hope you had a Happy Easter.
Hope you and your family had a joyful Easter.
Thanks Cube. It was good as always.
Same to you.

We do live in interesting times.

Cube - That's for sure. I don't know about the athletic part but I'm sure of where they got their brains. Right?
And probably are independent too like their mother.

Cube - I'm sure that golf is good exercise and a great way to spend time in the outdoors - even if in the company of a little gator!
If I were to take up a sport it would be tennis. Right now walking is my sport.
And you are wise to take lessons from a golf pro - and not the husband!
Sue, I still love tennis, but at my age, I'm in agony the next day. There isn't enough Aleve in the cupboard for my knees.

We wiill be watching it. There is a guy in it that went to high school with my daughter so my husband follows him closelly. His name is D.A. Points. He recently won a tournament. How about that young kid who will be playing!
I have bad knees because of tennis and running, so yes, I am looking for something I could take up that's more user-friendly for my golden years.
I'm glad your knees have improved with age... any suggestions? I'd love to improve the function of mine.
Yes, I'm trying to watch the Masters. Yesterday all the Golf channel had on was talking head chatter... I guess they're waiting for the weekend.
Thank you for sharing about your personal connection via D.A. Points. Mr. Cube & I will be looking out for him.
As far as the young kid goes, I hope he grows up to be a better person than Tiger Woods did... I'm just saying...
Cube - I can't explain how my knees got better - if I could I would be more than happy to share it with you.
I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm a fan of Tiger Woods. That's just how I am. I like Bill Clinton too -so there.
I don't reccommend that anyone try to use Tiger as a role model.
I guess I was just glad that he broke the color barrier at Augusta.
Don't feel as though you have to apologize to me about whom you do or do not admire. If I disagree, and I often do, I will argue the merits of your decision with you, but it will be a fair and honest debate.

Cube - Good question. And my answer is - probably not.
Funny that we'd be talking about both Bill Clinton and Tiger Woods right now. Clinton was a notorious cheater at golf and now Tiger finds himself in some hot water.
Did Tiger take unfair advantage yesterday?
My husband and I are divided on this issue.
Cube - I can't answer that question or even take a guess because I didn't watch the Masters
yesterday.
I'll probably see some of it today and tomorrow.
If you want - tell me what the circumstances were.
Cube - I just checked out your blog and the explanation is there.
But as I said - I don't really get it. :[
Mr. Cube, a life-long golfer, is defending Woods and I think Woods should disqualify himself.
Not the first time we've disagreed, but that makes conversations at our house interesting.
Looks like the POS Woods is going to continue to play because the financial stakes are too high to disqualify him.
*sigh*
Cube - What does POS stand for?
Piece of shit. He may be a phenomenal golfer, but I think he's a shitty human being.
Sue, you referred to me as Z again. She's the sleepy letter and I'm the twisted polyhedron.
BTW Sue, I commented on the shark bite story at my blog.
Cube - I'm so sorry that I keep referring to you as Z. I try to catch myself but to no avail.
I will keep trying. :]
:-P
