A Thanksgiving Memory

One of my favorite memories of Thanksgiving is when I was in grade school and we would color and cut out figures of pilgrim children. I always think back to that every year. Here is one of my favorite Thanksgiving songs.

Come, ye thankful people, come~~~Raise the song of harvest home: ~~~All is safely gathered in,,~~~Ere the winter storms begin; ~~~God, our Maker, doth provide~~~All our wants to be supplied;~~~Come to God's own temple, come;~~~Raise the song of harvest home. ~~~
Henry Alford~~~~~~There is a line in this verse that describe what is happening now in our country.
And it's not a good thing, (but we have no choice in the matter.)

My girls would trace their hands and then color the cut outs to resemble a turkey. I'm sure I have a couple of them somewhere in their old school files.

Cube - Sounds cute.

Have you ever seen a centerpiece that is a pineapple lying on its side with a turkey head? It's really a good one.

I like Thanksgiving. Then on to Christmas.

I googled the pineapple turkey centerpiece. It's very clever.

On to Christmas, you say. I checked the scale this am and was pleased to find that I didn't gain anywhere near what I thought I should've gained for all that I ate. On to Christmas, it is, for Round Two of the Holiday Foodathon.

Cube - Yes - Christms is Round Two of the Holiday Foodathon - but there is much more to do besides eat. Cards, decorating, shopping to mention a few. I'm in the decorating stage right now.

So far I'm doing ok.

Our weather has warmed up some. Not as freezing cold as it was.
How is it in sunny Florida?

I don't know if it's my upbringing, but I always think getting together for the holidays is very much about food. It's not just my family, but my husband's family as well. I guess decorating was down on the To Do List. We did it, but it wasn't over the food.

My husband's grandmother tried, in vain, to overfeed me for years. It never worked. The only time she was happy about my eating was when I was pregnant with her first granddaughter. She was in the moon happy when, after eating two heaving plates of turkey dinner, I was asked what pie I'd like for dessert, I replied, "Yes". There were three pie choices. She was rubbing my arm happy.

Thank you for this post that brought up these wonderful memories.

Gosh, I didn't even talk about our weather. Our's has been pretty mild recently. Right now I'm wearing "soft" jeans which my husband thinks are way more attractive than work out jeans. Guys... go figure. I'm just happy to feel comfortable.

Cube - I guess you could call our weather mild also. It certainly is not as harsh as it was last month.

Thanksgiving was much more about food than Christmas was when I was growing up. I don't associate food witih Christmas - just cookies and candy.

I do associate Christmas with food, just like Thanksgiving. Our blended families are all about the calories.

I'm still wearing the soft jeans, but if I were a braver soul, I would be wearing shorts. I'm cold averse.

Cube - We are having lots of rain here - which means it is not so cold as if it were snow. Have to watch out for the freezing rain as the thermometer gets too low.

Calories are plentiful in the type of foods I mentioned - the snacks - cookies and candy. I have to watch it.

Cube - I meant to mention that I loved your response to the question of what kind of pie you wanted - 'Yes.'

I'm not a calorie counter and I especially don't do it over the holidays. I've always been fortunate that weight was never a problem.

We've had a little more rain lately, but not an outrageous amount. I hate it when we get deluged and our yard is squishy with water.

Cube - I don't count calories either. While weight is not a problem for me there have been a couple of times I have gone on Weight Watchers to lose some.

Ah---the rain has stopped and it is going to be nice - and cold for a few days. Sunny too. Sorry about your squishy yard.
