Halloween is second only to Christmas for me as far as favorite holidays go. I love the fact that there are so many scary movies all over TV.

Cube - I knew it. I just knew that Halloween would be one of your favorite holidays!

I can't say that I like all the scary movies. I don't like movies that have stabbing in them. I am not fond of zombies. And I don't like movies with little girls who are the bad ones. Mainly The Ring.
I'm too impressionable for those.

I grew up watching horror/monster movies so they don't bother me except for one night...

I was in the hospital after giving birth to my second daughter and you know how how eerie hospitals can be in the middle of the night.

Well, I was watching John Carpenter's The Prince of Darkness and the music alone much less the premise of the movie is enough to creep anyone out, but then a large crucifix hanging on the wall near the TV just fell to the floor.

I was raised a Catholic and was so freaked out about it that I rang for the nurse on duty. She was not amused.

Cube - I love that story.

One night I thought I could hear the dinosaur steps shaking the ground - like in Jurrasic Park. On the same night I could see the red eyes of the Terminator. I had trouble going back to sleep!

cube said...

I'm glad you liked it, but it sure scared the devil out of me. That same movie was on not too long ago, and I was transported to that spinechilling night.

You dream big. Blockbusters both!

You're braver than I am. I never went to sleep that night.

Cube - I can't think of the word that you use - but I definitely stay away from movies about being possessed by the devil. The most famous one really scared me. I think it was Linda Blair that starred in it.

Just thinking about it gives me the creeps.

You're thinking of The Exorcist. You're not alone. I have a sister-in-law who finds the movie so terrifying, that she can't even listen to people talk about it.

One night we were discussing the fact that they kept the spiderwalking scene out of the original movie because it was considereded too scary for audiences and she had to leave the room.

BTW I don't think I would've been scared that night at the hospital if I hadn't been heavily sedated when
the crucifix fell off the wall.

sue hanes said...

Cube - The Exorcist is the word I was trying to think of.

sue hanes said...

Cube - I didn't read your response before I wrote my last one.

A spider added to that movie would have done me in. I don't like spiders and even in movies they bother me.

One night I was watching a movie on my little DVD player in bed and I dozed off. I opened my eyes just as there was a spider in the scene. It made me so mad I threw away the movie.

That is funny about the crucifix falling off of the wall and it scared you.

It wasn't a real spider, it was the possessed
Reagan walking down the stairs

Go here

IMO they should've left the scene in the movie/

sue hanes said...

Cube - Real or not - I don't want to see it. Go here - I have a feeling that I don't want to go there. I'm very impressionable and things stay in my mind.

Apparently you don't mind spiders!
You are braver than I am.

Don't click on the link if you don't want to, but it's just the girl walking like a spider.

BTW I hate spiders. We get huge, aggressive ones here in Florida and they don't back off when you walk into the garage. They act like they own the place.

My husband was standing on the carport one night when a large spider scurried across in front of him. It stopped midway and turned to face him. He said all of its eyes caught the light and glinted. Suddenly, the spider turned and continued on its way across the rest of the carport.

No spider fans in this house.

sue hanes said...

Cube - How many eyes do spiders have anyway? You said 'all of its eyes caught the light.'

sue hanes said...

Cube - Speaking of the girl walking like a spider - have you seen John Carpenter's The Thing?
There is a scene where the thing walks across the room looking like a spider with the man's head on top. Weird.

cube said...

Spiders have eight eyes. My husband said that spider, turning to look at him with its glowing eyes, really creeped him out.

I loved Carpenter's The Thing and yes, I do remember that scene. I have yet to watch the remake of that remake.

You can watch that grisly spider scene but you can't watch a girl walking like a spider? Huh?

sue hanes said...

Cube - What do spiders need with eight eyes. I can only imagine that that spider creeped your husband out!

I've watched The Thing a number of times and at first I couldn't stand to watch that part. Then I got used to it. I don't need another spider scene going through my mind (the girl walking like a spider.)

I liked The Thing but I thought the thing was over done. I liked the ending.

cube said...

I don't know why spiders have eight eyes. My thermodynamics professor used to say he could answer the how questions but not the why questions. I'm going to use his excuse.

I thought Carpenter's The Thing (1982) was a much truer version of the short story than the original movie (1951) with James "Gunsmoke" Arness as the thing.

I haven't seen the newest version (2011) yet. Maybe it's on Netflix.
Good Halloween movie if I can find it.

sue hanes said...

Cube - I haven't seen the newest version of The Thing either.

I agree with you that the original one is not like the story. I enjoy watching it but it's not very scary.

I hope I don't run into one of those eight eyed spiders. Around here spiders are pretty tame as compared to yours.

We had snow last night. This morning you could still see some among the leaves. I wonder if this is a sign of a hard winter.

Set our clocks back tonight.

cube said...

Your spiders have eight eyes, too, but, you're right, they're not as aggressive and the size of Buicks ;-)

Snow already? It sure sounds like it's going to be a hard winter.

It's 60 degrees here right now with occasional wind gusts. For us, that's unusually chilly for November 1st.

Brrrr. I'm not in my usual shorts. I'm wearing sweatpants today. I hope you're staying warm.

sue hanes said...

Cube - With that - all discussion of spiders should cease.

I am staying warm. My husband and I usually walk in the mornings in the neighborhood but the cold weather is forcing us to walk in the mall. Not a good choice but it's better than not walking at all.

I hope your weather warms up so you can get back into your shorts!

Just wanted to warn you about visiting The BLOG today. Remember, a word to the wise is sufficient.

sue hanes said...

Cube - Now you've got my curiosity aroused. I'm going right over there to check it out!

sue hanes said...

Cube - I wish I hadn't.

cube said...

Sorry. Right after I warned you, I thought that maybe you'd be curious and I almost deleted the comment. At least you were able to brace yourself.

sue hanes said...

Cube - That was my fault. I should have taken your warning seriously. It's only a picture and I shouldn't let it bother me.

But it was a big one and I don't like to think about it.

I'll think twice before I go back to your blog again. I'll wait until I think it's gone.

cube said...

It's already gone down below the screen, but like you said, it's just a picture. Consider yourself lucky you don't have to deal with them in real life.

sue hanes said...

Cube - I do consider myself lucky that I don't have to deal with them in real life. Remind me not to move to Florida!

I will be visiting your blog today - now that it is below the screen.

Usually we have spiders inside when the weather gets colder but fortunately there haven't been any - yet.

cube said...

The weather makes up for the bugs.

sue hanes said...

Cube - I have to say that I would rather have cold weather and no bugs. Especially spiders.

cube said...

You still have bugs, they're just not as big as the ones in Florida.

Right now our weather isn't cooperating much. It's 64 degrees now and, by comparison, it was 67 degrees this a.m.. Supposedly, a cold front is on its way. No shorts or t-shirts for a few days.

sue hanes said...

Cube - I agree - we still have bugs. You can keep your big ones!

We are having a cold spell. It is especially bad going to and leaving the basketball games. I'm ready for a bit of a warmup.

I'm hoping that there will be no snow for Thanksgiving. We are driving to a state park for dinner since we have no family coming this year.

Are you having dinner at your house?

cube said...

As much as it bugs me to say, I have no choice but to keep our nasty bugs.

It got down to 39 degrees overnight. My daughter, a native Floridian, went for a jog early this am and she asked plaintively, "Why does it hurt my face to run in Florida?"

It was 41 degrees when she was running. Luckily by afternoon it was in the low sixties, but it is predicted to go into the low forties tonight.

This year is our first not having family over to our house. I'm just not into doing a big production. It will be just our nuclear family.

sue hanes said...

Cube - It feels like a heat wave here. With temps in the forties and fifties and no snow. Just rain. I wish it would stay this way all winter. But I know it is going to get very cold again.

So far no percipitation predicted for Thursday.
